Posted on 7 Dec 2015
Summary Care Record (SCR) is an electronic summary which contains limited essential information derived initially from the your GP's record, this will include medication allergies, and adverse reactions.
Your SCR will be made available to health-care staff treating patients anywhere in England. This will be particulary useful in emergencies or when you need treatment out of hours that is when your GP surgery is closed, or if you are away from home. This enables them to feel more confident in treating you appropriately.
Your information in the SCR is safe and secure and is protected by the strong security measures that are available fro handling data.
If you prefer to opt out of having Summary Care Record you can
These are the only ways you can opt out of having a Summary Care Record. You cannot opt out by email or on the web because your GP practice needs to know that it’s you opting out (and not someone else who might try to opt out for you).
if you choose to opt out of having a Summary Care Record after it has been made, we will hide your record so that it can no longer be viewed by NHS healthcare staff. We will only make your record available again if those who want to see it, ask to do so in writing and if an investigation has found it necessary, for example if there is a complaint about your treatment.
